Doctor of Education in Recreation

The Doctor of Education program in Recreation prepares students to become teachers, researchers, and leaders in the area of recreation and leisure in university settings. All doctoral students pursuing a degree in recreation are required to take 9 hours of statistics beyond the master's level, a 9-hour cognate outside the area of the College of Education and Health Professions and 9 hours of core courses. Students are required to complete a minimum of 51 hours in recreation with at least 30 hours being at the doctoral level as well as 18 hours of dissertation. Graduate students in recreation have a variety of capstone experiences including:

Graduate students are provided the opportunity to connect classroom learning with actual research or service learning through courses such as Independent Research, Dissertation Research, fieldwork and community projects.
