Professional Biography:

Dr. Langsner earned a B.S. in Psychology from Springfield College in 1976, an M.S. in Urban Recreation & Leisure Studies from the University of Baltimore in 1981, and a Doctor of Recreation degree from Indiana University in 1986. He was a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist practicing for nearly seven years in diverse psychiatric settings with a variety of people with various disabilities. He also spent many years overseas working in the cruise line industry. He has been a faculty member in higher education for 22 years, three at the University of Delaware and 19 here at the University of Arkansas where he holds the rank of Associate Professor with tenure. He was named the 1997 and 2004 Department of Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation and Dance Outstanding Teacher and received the 2004 Outstanding Faculty Award for Teaching in the College of Education and Health Professions.

Dr. Langsner has been and is currently an active member or chair of committees at the department, college and university levels related to Academic Standards, Graduate Curriculum, Graduate Studies, Graduate Council, and Course and Program Review to name a few. He is a past Editor of the Classroom Learning Activities Section of SCHOLE, the Society of Park and Recreation Educators' scholarly journal.  He is a professional member of the National Recreation and Parks Association.

Job Duties:

Dr. Langsner deals primarily with curriculum, helping steer course and program proposals and changes through the university's bureaucracy. In addition, he facilitates the student appeal and grievance process, chairs the University Course and Program Committee, coordinates the college's student learning outcomes assessment plan, prepares reports for the provost, answers e-mail inquiries to the college Web site and prepares undergraduate catalog revisions. He processes many types of student petitions including change of grade forms, overrides, course substitution petitions, financial aid appeals, overload petitions and drop/add forms, and he grants ISIS access to faculty and staff members of the college.

He likes working with students and solving problems. When he can help faculty members do what they need to do, that's what he likes best.
