The undergraduate program in recreation prepares professionals for a variety of career opportunities in the field of Recreation and Parks.

Career opportunities may include park and recreation directors for a city, fitness center managers, state and national park managers, camp administrators, or work at YMCAs, Boys and Girls Clubs, or other youth-serving agencies.

Graduates of this program should be well prepared to enter the recreational workforce at an entry level position or pursue graduate studies in such areas as recreation management, sports management, or other allied health professional schools.

The graduate program in recreation is designed to prepare students for administrative positions.  Students collaborate with faculty in theory, research, and field based experiences.  This shared learning creates a dynamic environment for students to explore the boundaries of knowledge in the leisure service field.

Career opportunities for sport management positions are found in university and professional sports including sport marketing, athletic administration, and sport facility management.

Opportunities for recreation management include public recreation administration, special event development, and commercial recreation enterprise.

The candidates in the doctoral programs are most often employed in teaching at the college level.

The candidate for the Masters of Education degree with a major in Recreation selects one of two concentrations:

Recreation Management
Sport Management

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Stephen Dittmore will be joining our Recreation faculty for fall 2008. Dr. Dittmore will be coming to the University of Arkansas from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania.
